The Team

Steven & Helen Anderson - National Directors

Steven Anderson was minister of Castlemilk Baptist Church in Glasgow from 1987 to 1999. From 1999 to 2006 he, with his wife Helen, established and led Prayer For The City (Glasgow) seeking to encourage united, believing, sustained prayer for city wide transformation.

In May 2003 New Wine Press published Steven’s book ‘Breakthrough Prayer’. This book encourages believers and churches to realise more of the potential of prayer, to prioritise it and persevere in its practice.

Steven and Helen had been involved in healing ministry since 1985 when they were impacted by the ministry of John Wimber. They ran Healing Services over a number of years witnessing healings and salvation.

In 2003 Steven had sensed the Lord tell him to “release healing as a sign of the Kingdom” – taking it out from the church and into our communities. An encounter one afternoon with Kent Roberts from California, introduced Steven to the concept of Healing Rooms. He gave Steven Cal Pierce’s book, “Preparing the Way” which led to a strong sense of call to establish this work in Scotland.

Steven and Helen visited Spokane in 2004 where they underwent training and were subsequently appointed as National Directors for Scotland and now they directly oversee the Glasgow rooms and give direction to the rooms operating throughout Scotland conducting regular training courses across the nation.

Tom & Marjory Morrow - Associate National Directors

In 2001 we went to live in California because of Tom’s job. His company had a contract which would mean relocating to Los Angeles for a few years. Many things happened while we were there, primarily God calling us into a deeper relationship with Him. We knew that at the end of our 3 years we were going to go back to Scotland as very different people and with a calling to use the things we had learned and experienced during our time away. We really didn’t know exactly what these things would be, but we believed that God would show us in His time.

We arrived back in Scotland early in 2004 and got involved in a local church and found out as much about what was going on in Edinburgh as we could. We went to the occasional prayer gathering to pray for the city and spent lots of time just waiting before the Lord for what it was He would have us do. Things didn’t move as quickly as we had expected when we got back, and God took us through a time of waiting and persevering. He kept telling us not to try to birth something that was not of Him or in His time.

After a year or so a couple of things happened quite quickly that were to lead us into the call that God had for us. The first thing was that a friend called Kent Roberts, whom we had met through our best friends in America, emailed to let us know he was coming to Glasgow to work at a bible school there. Naturally we invited him to come through to see us for dinner and a chat when he arrived. When we met him he shared that as well as helping with the bible school, one of the things he was going to be doing was helping to set up Healing Rooms in Glasgow, both as a trainer and a team member! Unknown to us it turned out that on a previous trip to Glasgow he had met with Steven Anderson and given him the Cal Pierce book called “Preparing the Way”. Our American friend was now going to team up with Steven to help run training and get things going. We were totally amazed that God should have connected us with the one guy in America who ended up over here in Scotland to do Healing Rooms. It was becoming obvious that something was afoot!!

So after our 3 and a half months of waiting, an interesting thing happened — a meeting in Shetland (where we had attended a prayer conference). Kent and Steven Anderson were going up to carry out Healing Rooms training at the same time as we were also on the Island (another of those funny “coincidences”). We arranged to meet for lunch, and during this meeting we shared with Steven our story and our heart to see Healing Rooms come to Edinburgh. Steven simply said that if he was invited to come and do training in Edinburgh then he would come!

So, feeling somewhat overwhelmed, we went out in faith and booked a place to run a training weekend and set about advertising it locally. We though that we would be doing well if around 20 folks turned up, but as the time approached for the training more and more people were calling us to say they wanted to come. In the end around 45 people (most of whom we didn’t know) came to our first training weekend. A great time was had by everyone and the enthusiasm and energy of the people was so encouraging. In the end we had a committed team of about 20 people and these people formed the first of our Healing Rooms teams.

Of course there is more to the story, like how we got the current venues for Healing Rooms and all the twists and turns in that tale and that is just the kind of God we have. He loves to take that which seems foolish and unqualified and use it (or them!) to display His glory. The adventure continues, and we know that whatever we think it will look like it will most likely be exceedingly abundantly greater than what we could ask or imagine!!

Iris Hall: Deeper Healing

I’m surprised to find myself suddenly 60 something but also thankfully, very young in spirit. My husband Glen and I are part of Whiteinch Church of Scotland which we helped plant about 13 years ago. We have two grown up daughters who are also our friends. This is a marvellous state of affairs!

I first met Steven and Helen more than 11 years ago when they started Prayer for the City in Glasgow. I became involved with PftC and have worked with them since then. My minister Alan McWilliam also got to know them and became part of their “church leaders praying” in the city. Four years ago Steven and Helen set up Healing Rooms in Scotland and the first healing room was opened in Whiteinch.

It was exciting to be part of that first team with Steven, Helen and Alan along with others from our church and folk from around the city. Glen became involved and now manages the Tuesday room in Whiteinch while I look after the Wednesday room.

As the ministry grew it became apparent that some people needed more time than our healing rooms could offer. Steven and Helen set up Deeper Healing (DH) ministry. I learned and developed in confidence as I worked with them.

Earlier this year a group from Whiteinch went to Bill Johnston’s church in Redding, California. We were taught about SOZO, their transformation ministry of salvation, healing and deliverance. In the DH team we have begun to study and practice these methods under the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit.

These are exciting developments where we see God working in very different ways from in Healing Rooms. It’s thrilling to see people set free in the space of a couple of hours, sometimes from childhood wounding or trauma which pre-dates their earliest memories.

Alongside increasing testimony of miracles in Healing Rooms throughout the country the work of Deeper Healing is expanding and the team developing. The Holy Spirit is moving among us in power, transforming lives, bringing freedom, healing and deliverance. Hallelujah! All praise and glory to Jesus!

Stephen & Susan Webster - Evangelism

Stephen and Susan were both saved as teenagers, Stephen in Inverness and Susan in Hamilton.

They met and married is St George's Tron church Glasgow in 1979 while Stephen was working as a teacher and Susan training to be a nurse. God has blessed them with two sons, Matthew and Peter. They currently live in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow.

In 1994 God spoke to Stephen about reaching out to the poor, homeless and vulnerable, and a ministry to these people on the streets of Glasgow was started and continues today.

This shared vision with Healing Rooms has led to a partnership where open doors for evangelism and healing on the streets are being followed through and developed. Discipleship strategies are also being created through friendship, new believer's course, Freedom in Christ course and linking people into local healing rooms and recommended churches.

Stephen and various volunteers currently go out on a Saturday night around 7.30pm with soup, clothing, etc. to meet and pray with people on city centre streets. This ministry may also be extended to a Friday evening when other people are free to become involved.

Any Healing Room volunteers who would like to be involved in supporting evangelism and discipleship ministries, please contact Stephen here.
